The kind heart and generosity of a former school teacher and university lecturer has left two non-profit organisations leaping with joy.

The late Joyce Danraijie Heeraman, originally from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, left behind a will that would see her life savings directed to the Fiji Cancer Society and WOWs Kids Fiji.

Prior to Ms Joyce’s passing she had sought the help of the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Limited to draft her final wishes in the form of a will.

Yesterday, the chief executive officer of the Public Trustee, Atonio Takala, on behalf of the late Ms Joyce donated $10,000 from the Joyce Heeraman Estate to the Fiji Cancer Society and another $10,000 from the Joyce Heeraman Estate to the WOWS Kids Fiji.

Board member of the Fiji Cancer Society, Makrava Wilson, said: “This is a very generous donation done and there are so many good people out there that we cannot thank enough.

“We are just glad that Ms Joyce had WOWS Kids and Fiji Cancer Society in her will to be the recipients of her donation and we can only wish her soul will rest in peace and thank her for the donation.

“We would like to acknowledge all the organisations and individuals who have participated in the Pinktober month.

Mr Takala said: “Joyce Danraijie Heeraman was originally from Trinidad and Tobago, in the Caribbean. She grew up and obtained her Teacher Training degree and taught in primary and secondary schools.

“She came to Fiji in the late 1970s and taught in a number of primary schools in Fiji for 14 years before joining the University of the South Pacific in 1991, where she was a lecturer in the School of Education, Faculty of Arts and Law.

“In April this year Ms Joyce sought the services of the Fiji Public Trustee for the drafting of her final wishes in the form of a will.

“Ms Joyce was laid to rest on the 4th of June 2018, and it is with honour that we gather today to witness the fulfilment of part of Ms Joyce’s wishes.”
