There was a solemn atmosphere at Nabukaluka Village as people of Waimaro in Naitasiri farewelled the Roko Tui Waimaro Adi Pateresia Vonokula at Nabukaluka Methodist Church yesterday.

She was later laid to rest at the Sautabu in Vagadra Cemetery at Nabukaluka Village.

As the vanua, family and friends mourned there were kind words heard in the ensuing silence to describe the late Roko Tui Waimaro Adi Pateresia.

“A woman who never let her people down,” said vanua spokesperson Jone Tokairavua.

In a moving eulogy, he said the late Roko Tui Waimaro Adi Pateresia left a legacy for the people of Waimaro to follow.

“She left examples for us the church, vanua and family to follow,” Mr Tokairavua said.

“She left behind values that we will always cherish.

“She was the Roko Tui Waimaro for 37 years and always did her duty to ensure the welfare of Waimaro in Fiji.

“Leading her people in the right direction. There are no words to describe her diligence.”

In the eulogy on behalf of the church Reverend Viliame Naimata said he was blessed to have met the late Roko Tui Waimaro Adi Pateresia.

“She did a lot of things for her people. I heard that during the difficult times she sold rourou (dalo leaves) to help finance the construction of the Nabukaluka Methodist Church,” Mr Naimata said.

“We are blessed to have met her.”

The late Roko Tui Waimaro Adi Pateresia Vonokula is survived by her seven children.
