At the Ratu Kadavulevu School prizegiving ceremony yesterday, the Best Overall Vocational Student award winner dedicated his achievement to his mum.

Nineteen-year-old Poate Rainima, who hails from Visama Village in Nakelo, Tailevu, acknowledged the work his mother, Tulia Liloma, had undertaken since his father’s death.

“My mother has been the backbone of our family, since my father passed away and I plan to do my best so that I can pay back all her sacrifices she has done for our family,” said the youngest of four siblings.

“I would not have reached this far without the encouragement from my family. They have been there for me from day one.

“I have learned a lot since joining RKS last year and I plan to join the Australian Pacific Technical College (APTC) next year.

“I thank God for bringing me this far. Now I have completed Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery. I plan to continue my studies next year,” Poate said.
