Fiji Seeks Stronger Ties With Bangladesh

This year marks the 46 years of enhanced diplomatic relations and partnership between the two countries.
The non-resident High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Fiji, Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, paid a courtesy call on Tuesday to the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Ioane Naivalurua, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Suva.
Mr Naivalurua congratulated Mr Rahman for his appointment. In a meeting, they discussed key areas of co-operation to further strengthen bilateral ties between Fiji and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Mr Rahman also congratulated Fiji for being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
He said it was a great achievement for Fiji to be recognised for its leadership in advancing and protecting the human rights.
The discussions also highlighted the potential opportunities that Bangladesh offers to Fiji in terms of trade and investment.
The meeting ended with Mr Naivalurua and Mr Rahman exchanging information on the way forward to broaden the collaboration between the two countries in areas of climate change, peacekeeping and socioeconomic development.
