Fiji Sun Well Ahead: Readership Survey

Fiji Sun is by far the country’s preferred newspaper, says a new survey.

Independent Nadi-based Western Force Research says its survey shows 51 per cent of Fijians exclusively prefer the Fiji Sun.

Those who read both newspapers make up 17 per cent.

This means the Fiji Sun is the newspaper read by 68 per cent of newspaper readers.

The rival Fiji Times scores just 32 per cent in exclusive readership.

The result comes as no surprise. The Fiji Sun is the biggest daily newspaper in Fiji and the region, says Publisher/CEO Peter Lomas.

He says the Fiji Sun leads in all key market share indicators in the Fijian newspaper market: Circulation, Display Advertising and Classified Advertising.

“Plus we have a rapidly growing online presence,” he said.

“It’s testimony to the calibre and energy of the staff we have right across the business. And the investment we have made in training, development and equipment.

“We have a lot fewer people than the Fiji Times. But we have the quality people.”

The telephone-based survey was conducted nationally by Western Force Research on October 31 – November 1 with 1118 respondents.
