Overcoming various challenges finally paid off for Necani Lagicere yesterday when he was named dux of Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) .

The 18-year-old from Nasavu Village in Rara, Naitasiri worked hard and made the necessary sacrifices not expecting to one day become the dux of RKS. He thanked God for always being there for him when the going got tough.

“Receiving the dux award came as a surprise for me and I thank everyone who lent a helping hand in my journey this far,” Necani said.

“I strived to do my best because I don’t come from a well-off family. I wanted to do something to make my parents proud.”

Necani said he was a few steps away from achieving his dream.

“I want to be an architect and my father has encouraged me to do my best. I am happy to be able to reach this far,” he said.

He also scooped the highest mark in English, Physics, Applied Science the Chaplain Award and first prize in Year 13.
