Unity Fiji Man Faces Court

A Unity Fiji Party candidate appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday charged with dishonesty after he had allegedly issued cheques that were later dishonoured.

Laitia Matalomani, 35, of Nakasi, was charged with two counts of general dishonesty causing a loss when he appeared before Magistrate Nayani Kasturiratne.

In the first count it is alleged that on December 26, 2017, while checking into the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel at Marine Drive in Lautoka, Matalomani issued a dishonoured cheque causing a loss of $190 to the hotel.

On the second count, he issued another cheque on December 27, 2017, for $67.50 which was later returned, dishonoured by the bank.

The matter was reported to Police by the hotel management in February 2018 and Matalomani was questioned and charged.

He was released on a $500 bail bond with one surety.

The case was adjourned to February 25th 2019.

Shortly after the adjournment yesterday Matalomani was taken by Ba Police to face fresh charges.

It is not clear at this stage what charges he was allegedly going to face in Ba.
