Fiji Corrections Service personnel and prisoners who are eligible to vote will cast their ballots in the various corrections facilities in Fiji throughout this week.

Pre-poll workers from the Fijian Elections Office were at the Naboro Prison Complex and the Natabua Corrections Facility yesterday.

Commissioner of Corrections Francis Kean said their operations would go on as normal during this election period.

“We are carrying out routine duties to the best of our abilities and we are just looking forward to all Fiji Corrections Service personnel casting their vote and also all prisoners under our care who are eligible and have registered to vote to also cast their votes,” Mr Kean said.

“We have started that in the Southern Division in Naboro today (yesterday) and down in the Western Division in Lautoka and we will move to the other divisions throughout the week.”

He said it was standard for officers of any disciplined service to work during the general election because of the demand of the job and the fact that it was an essential service.
