Salome Vaivai of Nabukaluka in Naitasiri was excited to cast her ballot for the first time during pre-polling at her village yesterday.

The 21-year-old said she woke up early to do all her housework so she could make it on time.

“This is the first time I am voting and I was excited. Casting my vote meant that I was old enough to decide which party will form Government,” Ms Vaivai said.

“As a first-time voter everything was new to me. I saw new things and did new things which was an eye-opener to me. “My one vote will make a difference for the person I voted for.”

Silika Baleilekutu, 52, believes she made the right choice yesterday.

“I walked for an hour to reach the pre-polling venue because I do not live in the village. I woke at 5am and did my housework,” Ms Baleilekutu said.

“Today I voted for a person that I believe will take Fiji forward and I am waiting for the results to be announced by the Fijian Elections Office.”
