Parents Pita Vakaoqotabua and Maraia moved from Natewa Bay to Labasa to give their two children a better education.

While one is still a toddler, the eldest, Grace Rosie Shanel, has just completed early childhood education and is on her way to achieve more.

Yesterday, the parents watched with pride as Grace received her certificate of completion from Gurunanak Khalsa Kindergarten.

“I’m so happy to see my daughter graduate,” said Mr Vakaoqotabua.

“We always shared the work to be done and I always enjoyed taking my daughter and dropping her to school every morning,” he said.

Mrs Vakaoqotabua said: “She had difficulties in figuring out things.”

She said her perseverance and dedication led to her daughter’s success towards the start of her educational journey.

“Sometimes she would not understand things taught at school and it worried her. But the support from us was vital to her,” she said.

“She slowly started with her learning pace and was soon doing very good at school.

“I always get up early in the morning and prepare lunch for my daughter.”

Rukmani Naicker, teacher in charge said 64 pre-school students graduated.

“It was a challenging year for us teachers but we were dedicated towards helping them,” she said.

“Children are now well prepared to enter class one next year,” she said.

Grace is expected to enroll at Gurunanak Primary School next year.
