Top 4 Finish Target: Tietjens

The Papua New Guinea women sevens side will need to finish in the top four to qualify for the Sydney 7s on February 2-3, next year. The side defeated Samoa 19-17 in their opening match of the 2018 Oceania Sevens Championship yesterday
Coach Paul Tietjens was happy with their first hitout.
“This tournament is very crucial for us as it’s our only chance to qualify for the Sydney 7s,” Tietjens said.
“It is also my first time coaching a female side and the players are really keen to learn and improve.
“As the coach I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to prepare such a young team for this tournament.
“I look forward to the girls improving their performance in every game.
“Despite preparing for the past two weeks for the Oceania Sevens Championship the girls still managed to deliver and I’m impressed.
“We played Western Sydney clubs as part of our build-up.
“Our biggest challenge will be playing top guns Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.”
