Blackout confusion

The Elections Campaign Media Blackout notice has been misunderstood by many Fijians who are living abroad.

They have taken to social media for the past few days indicating that there is a total media blackout on the coverage of the general elections as they rave on with their nonsense. How dumb could they be?

The media blackout is the time or deadline given to all political parties and candidates when they should stop campaigning and also take down all their posters.

In one extreme case, one person thought that there would be controlled power blackout for 48 hours, until it was explained to him what the blackout period actually means.

It gives voters time to think about their decision without pressure.

Music Power

FijiFirst fans just could not resist it when music was turned on at Churchill Park, in Lautoka, yesterday.

They were celebrating successful rallies in the West. You can’t blame them after they heard that FijiFirst would be giving the people more  new initiatives if it is returned to power.

OCEANIA Rugby SEVENS

It’s great to have the Oceania Rugby Sevens played here, but to have the final played at 8.20pm is too late.

Why can’t it be brought earlier to 5pm or even 6pm. Perhaps, it would not hurt if organisers from Oceania Rugby seek the expertise from our Rugby House in the first place. Food for thought, perhaps for the next time around.

Voters to blame

About 100 voters could not vote in one pre-polling station because they were simply late.

They live not far from the polling booth but had no genuine reasons for  arriving late and missed voting. One person who managed to vote said: “It’s the attitude.

“There is no excuse. They have been excited to vote, but let themselves down.

“They are so disappointed. But they have only themselves to blame.”
