Remembrance Day: Mother, Children Remember Late Dad

Jiokapeci Vakalaca was emotional during the Remembrance Day commemoration yesterday as she recollected times with her husband, who died in Kenya.
Her husband, Saiasi Vakalaca, died of a short illness in Nairobi, Kenya while serving in the British Army in 2016.
Her sons wore their father’s medals during the celebration.
The mother-of-four could not hold back her tears as she described how she missed her husband.
“It is an honour to be part of the celebration with my children. I was emotional when I saw the ex-servicemen and thought about my husband,” Ms Vakalaca said.
“The Remembrance Day means a lot to my children and I. My husband was a hard-working man and we miss him. No one can take his place in our hearts.”
Ms Vakalaca said her sons wanted to follow their father’s footstep.
“My sons want to become British Army soldiers because they wanted to continue their father’s legacy,” she said.
“We were lucky that my husband was laid to rest in Fiji when he died in Kenya. My children and I will always celebrate Remembrance Day.”
