As hosts the Gallagher Chiefs will bring their Super Rugby clash against the defending champions Crusaders to the ANZ Stadium, Suva, on June 1, next year.

This was confirmed yesterday by Fiji Sports Council chief executive officer Litiana Loabuka.

“The Fiji Sports Council is excited and looking forward to hosting the 2019 Super Rugby clash,” she said.

“We’re very excited to have the Gallagher Chiefs on board as the host team.”

Chiefs chief executive officer Mike Collins expressed how exciting it was to be hosting a match against Crusaders in the Pacific region.

“The Fijian people have been great supporters of Super Rugby,” Collins said.

“Fiji has added a lot to rugby in New Zealand over the years, so we’re really pleased to be able to take another game there.

“We have a close connection now with our Fijian fans after competing in Fiji for three years. It feels like home away from home and a real part of our Gallagher chiefs territory.”

The Chiefs squad have Fijian loose forward Pita Gus Sowakula while their attack coach is former national rugby centre Tabai Matson and defence coach Neil Barnes was a former Flying Fijians assistant coach. The Crusaders have Fijian- born winger Manasa Mataele.
