Police probe Queen Victoria School students drinking homebrew at school

Five students from Queen Victoria School in Tailevu were questioned and released for allegedly drinking homebrew in the boy’s dormitory on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said a report was received at the Korovou Police Station that students were allegedly drinking liquor and causing trouble after midnight.

“Two officers were sent to attend the report whereby it is alleged they found students fighting and in the process one of the officers’ was assaulted by two students aged 16 and 17 years,” she said.

“The two students were interviewed and released.

“Later the same day at around 2am another call was received from the school principal alleging more students were drinking homebrew inside one of the boys’ dormitories and causing trouble.

“Upon arrival the officers allegedly found the two students who were taken in earlier and three others also aged 16 and 17 years drinking.

“All five were interviewed and released as investigations continue,” Ms Naisoro said.

The principal of QVS, Qalo Lesi, refused to comment in relation to the issue.

“I am not authorised to make any comments and will not make any statement,” Mr Lesi said.
