Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber is happy with the performance of the new players in the squad.

This was after the Kalione Nasoko -captained team won the 2018 Oceania Sevens Championship at the ANZ Stadium last Saturday.

New players Napolioni Ratu, Vilimoni Botitu and Beniamino Vota were instrumental in the 17-12 Cup final win over New Zealand.

Baber believes the work rate by the new players would provide competition for senior reps.

“The new players add value to the team, they all played well,”Baber said.

“Botitu is very comfortable with the ball in hand and always running straight.

“His kicking game is good and an able replacement for Waisea Nacuqu and Vatemo Ravouvou.

“Ratu defended well and was always very physical.”

Baber was satisfied with how the players responded after weeks of Daily Training Exercises (DTE)

The squad march into camp in Nadi tomorrow.

The first leg of the World Sevens Series in Dubai is set for November 30-December 1.

Fiji is in Pool B with Kenya, Scotland and France.

Fiji plays France on November 30 at 7:06pm, Scotland at 10:06pm and Kenya on December 1 at 4:06am.
