Vishnu Prasad, 78, of Nagigi was happy to cast his vote after he was admitted at the Labasa hospital earlier this week.

“I was so sick that the doctors admitted me on Monday. This really worried me because I knew the election was just the day after my admission and that I may not be able to vote,” he said.

Mr Prasad said that his son and daughter-in-law assured him that everyone would get better.

And to his own surprise, Mr Prasad’s fever subsided when he was discharged from hospital yesterday.

“I started feeling alright and this really made me happy,” he said.

The 78-year-old said that it was God’s will that he voted this year.

“I consider myself very lucky today,” he said.

With the assistance of his walking stick, Mr Prasad had to walk for more than a kilometre to get to the polling station.

“I face a lot of difficulties walking but I had to make it somehow,” he said.

He said that his vote was important as it would decide on the future of the country.
