Data Entry For Final General Election Results Get Underway

Data entry for the provisional result tally has stopped as entry for the final results begins.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said political parties are welcome to have their agents present while they are entering data for the final result.

He said they’ve received 70 per cent of results from polling stations which was a target the FEO had set for themselves when announcing the provisional results tally.

“We have reached that benchmark of 70 percent but that does not mean that counting has stopped, this does not mean that we will be counting again, this does this mean that the result will only be for the 70 percent of the polling places.

“The results we have announced all night were directly from polling places and was meant to give voters confidence and certainty that the votes that were cast yesterday have been counted so that voters can ascertain the direction in which election is heading.”

As of 7am this morning the Mr Saneem released the following figures:

  • 370,450 votes have been counted
  • 60 per cent from the Central division
  • 53 per cent from the Eastern division
  • 59 per cent from the Northern division
  • 60 per cent of the Western division.
