Trina Davis is back in camp with the Vodafone Fijian women’s squad as they prepare for the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Nations Cup in New Caledonia on November 18-December 1.

The United States of America based-player arrived on Monday and was welcomed by her relatives and the Vodafone Fiji football head coach Christophe Gamel.

The Frenchman said Davis greatest strength is her speed.

“Usually in our team, we have strength and explosiveness but no speed. It’s really a good weapon as we saw during the qualifiers,”Gamel said.

“But it is another step, only one team will go to the World Cup and I hope we can use Trina and her speed to help us qualify.”

Davis, 17, said it has always been a dream to play at Word Cup level as she had been doing all the hard yards back home in USA.

“I have been following up on them (women’s team) as they also played Samoa. I’ve been training a lot back home knowing that world cup spot is at stake,” Davis said.

“I also did physical therapy on my knee so that I can get stronger, doing weights and football practices too.”

Fiji play Cook Islands on November 19, Tonga on November 22 before battling New Zealand in their final pool match on November 25.

The winner earns a place at the FIFA Women’s

World Cup in France next year and Olympic Games in 2020.

The team depart for New Caledonia tomorrow.
