TWO Deaths On ELECTION DAY

Police officers were called to a polling station at Mokani, Tailevu, after a voter reportedly collapsed and died in his car on his way to vote yesterday morning.

This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

“We found a person who was coming to vote as well slant inside his car,” he said.

“Unfortunately, when we investigated we found that he had lost his life as well.”

It was one of two deaths reported on election day.

The second occurred at a polling station at Nabua, Suva.

“Unfortunately two people lost their lives whilst waiting to cast their vote. It has nothing to do with standing in a queue for long periods of time,”Brigadier-General Qiliho said. “At one polling station in Nadi a person had to be rushed to hospital after a suspected asthma attack.”
