Being bedridden did not stop Selita Vucago from casting her vote from inside a taxi near the Draiba Fijian School polling venue in Suva yesterday.

The 53-year-old, who suffers from stroke on the left side of her body, was determined to make her vote count.

“I really wanted to vote and I did not care if I was a stroke victim because I wanted to make my vote count,” Ms Vucago said.

“I cannot talk about the next Government and its administration if I know that I didn’t vote and that it would have made a difference.

“I told my daughter that no matter what I was going to cast my vote. I am happy with the staff of Fijian Elections Office for being helpful. They ensured that I cast my vote by allowing me to vote in the taxi I was in.”

Ms Vucago said casting her vote meant that her voice would be heard.

“No one should have an excuse for not casting their vote. If I can go and vote so can the others,” she said.
