Who Is Alipate Nagata? And More Fiji Election Provisional Results After 1501 Stations Counted

A surprising name has popped up in the top 10 of the latest provisional results tally.

Former school teacher and FijiFirst candidate, Alipate Nagata whose candidate number is 668 is running at sixth place, well ahead of SODELPA’s Ro Teimumu Kepa and Parveen Bala after 1501 stations were counted.

Commentators on social media are already highlighting his sudden rise in the provisional tally as a result of voters mistaking his number as that of FijiFirst leader Voreqe Bainimarama whose candidate number was 688.

Mr Nagata has managed 5199 votes ahead of Ro Teimumu’s 4578.

Still well in the lead is Mr Bainimarama with 138,699 votes a difference of 73,788 votes ahead of SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka.

Mr Rabuka has polled 64,911 votes.

FijiFirst general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is at third place and has garnered more votes this time around compared to the 2014 General Elections.

Biman Prasad is at fourth place with 10,403 votes.

Lynda Tabuya remains at 5th place with 7121 votes.

SODELPA’s Vanua Levu candidates take the tail end in the top 10 – Mosese Bulitavu has managed 4099 votes while newcomer, Ratu Antonio Lalabalavu has 3017 votes.
