The Lami Primary School athletics team are aiming to provide a lot of competition at today’s FMF Chow Games at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

The school is making return to the competition after 10 years.

LPS athletics coach Anasa Bulitovo said that preparations have been good leading up to the competition.

“We’ve been preparing for the past six weeks after our inter-house competition on week four where we chose our squad.

“The kids have been training regularly and for us coaches that’s a good sign because it indicates that training and preparations are on track.”

Bulitovo added that there were some difficulties that management faced along the way but still managed to make it to the competition.

He said the team last participated in 2009 and gave other schools a run for their money in all the grades.

This year, Bulitovo said, they are fielding a total of 65 athletes from the Under-9 to the U14 grades and are looking to repeat the onslaught they did 10 years ago.

“The main aim for Team Lami in this year’s Chow Games is to expose the students as some of the athletes are first time participants.”

Paulini Naiodro, 10, of Lami Village said despite being a first timer she is looking forward to the competition.

“I’m very excited and at the same time I’m also nervous since this is my first time,” she said.

“I watched the Coca-Cola Games on television but now I’m about to run on the same track and to participate here at the ANZ Stadium is something that I will never forget.”

The Lami girl will be competing in the U10 75m sprints and the 4x100m relay.
