The Fijian Elections Office has clarified on its Facebook page that the counting of ballot papers are done manually by their FEO counting teams.

Titled ‘Fake News’, the post clarified speculations going viral on social media about a recount. It said it was not true.

“We have not had any recounts,” the post said.

“The data in the Final Tally will eventually add up to the results that we uploaded in the provisional results.

“The Final Tally is a legal document that will be printed and handed over to the Electoral Commission, therefore, the data entry is done from the beginning directly from Protocols of Result.”

It further stated that as of 7am yesterday counting of around 360 ballot boxes was yet to be concluded.

“The Count centre is still counting them. 224 ballot boxes from election day could not transmit results to the Result Centre last night (Wednesday),” it said.

“We will now directly enter the results in the Final Tally.”

FEO further clarified that all of their live feeds were from Closed-Circuit Television cameras, which did not emit any sound.

“A video is being circulated which has obviously has sound recorded over it to create confusion. It is fake,” the post said.

Members of the public should know that FEO Information Technology systems for results are completely ‘off-grid’ to protect against any attempts to infiltrate the system.
