The Fiji Rugby Union’s application for a World Rugby Council seat has finally been unanimously endorsed at the World Rugby Council meeting held earlier this week.

This was confirmed by FRU chief executive officer, John O’Connor who received feedback from World Rugby in Dublin, Ireland on Wednesday.

O’Connor highlighted this was one of the greatest achievements in FRU’s history.

“We have been playing organised rugby the last 106 years and never had an official representative in the World Rugby decision making Council,” O’Connor said yesterday.

“To receive this endorsement and become an official member of the World Rugby Council is a momentous occasion not only for the FRU but for rugby in Fiji.

He acknowledged and thanked the current Board of Directors particularly the leadership of the chairman, Commander Francis Kean.

He also thanked and acknowledged the support of the president of FRU and the Government of the day for its support in the reform journey of FRU.
