Weather Improves In Many Parts Of Fiji

Weather has improved significantly as systems have moved away from the Group faster than anticipated, says Fiji Meteorological Service director Ravind Kumar.

“Heavy rain and strong winds have eased and the weather will clear for most parts of the Group later today (yesterday),” he said.

“All alerts and warnings that were previously in force are now cancelled.

“Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure lies slow moving to the east of the Group and associated cloud and showers affect eastern parts of the country.

“Occasional showers, isolated heavy falls and possible thunderstorms are expected over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands and gradually clear tonight.

“For the rest of the country, expect cloudy periods with possible afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.

“Over Fiji waters, mariners can expect south to southwest winds 10 to 15 knots and moderate seas.

“Visibility will be poor in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms.”
