Somosomo Sharks On Course

Somosomo Sharks players in Taveuni, who are mainly farmers, had to work hard so they could participate in the NEWWorld Naseakula Under- 20 7s tournament which started yesterday at Subrail Park, Labasa.
The boys had to sell their produce to close families and friends, to meet their transportation, meal and registration costs.
They are the team that travelled the furthest to participate in the two-day tournament which finishes today.
Twelve teams are participating with the winner getting $1000 and the runner up $400..
“Most of these boys are unemployed so this is like a dream come true for the boys to come to Labasa and to participate in the competition,” Somosomo Sharks captain Saro Pitanaicava said.
“We want break away from the normal village life and participate in a better, active and healthy lifestyle.
“It is through the unity and the communal spirit of the islanders that has led to this and we are really grateful.
“They have been playing in the local tournaments for the last decade.
“The whole community worked together and this is an achievement for everyone in Somosomo.”
The Somosomo Sharks remained unbeaten in yesterday’s pool games.
