Nasinu Under-14 girl’s sprinter Sereana Vulaono and Lautoka’s Mesulame Tuigau took out the 100 metres finals at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

Vulaono clocked 13.37 seconds ahead of Kinisalote Navula of Nadi (13.45s) and Niria Veramu of Lautoka (13.48s).

Tuigau won gold with a time of 12.07 secs, Garry Kabasi of Suva One settled with a silver (12.57s) and Matia Waqanivalu of Nadi (12.63s).

Vulaono, who will be joining Latter Day Saints College next year, was determined of returning home with a gold medal.

“I was expecting to win my event because I prepared really well with my coach Bola Tafo’u.

“Bola challenged me that I have to show what he was teaching me during training and I’m glad that I have done it,” Vulaono said.

Meanwhile, Tuigau said his win was for the Lautoka supporters.

“I also want to dedicate this win to my parents,” he said.

The Year Eight student of Lautoka Methodist Primary School joins Natabua High School next year.
