Vani Rawavatu was caught by surprise when she was named Ballantine Memorial School’s Proximity to Dux award winner last Friday.

“I had no idea I was taking the proximity to Dux award home,” the 17-year-old said.

“I would like to thank my parents and siblings for always being there for me in good and bad times.

“All this hard work was to make my parents proud because they have done a lot for me and they play a very big role in my life.”

The Year 13 student said as a boarding student it had been difficult being away from her family, but she managed to soldier on.

She said that her family was her biggest inspiration in her student life.

“My father teaches me a lot about God and education because these two things are very important in life,” Vani said.

Speaking about her future, she said she aimed to study an Air Hostess course in Australia.

“I choose to be an air hostess because I want to serve the people and travel the world.”
