A 27-year-old man charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs has been remanded by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Josese Kalaidreketi Sautabu appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa in a special court sitting on Monday.

He is charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. It is alleged that on November 16, 2018, in Suva, Sautabu, without lawful authority, possessed 356.4 grams of marijuana, an illicit drug. Sautabu had waived his right to a lawyer.

Police prosecutor Corporal Sanil Kumar told the court that full phase of disclosures were served to the accused. He did not object to the accused’s bail.

However, Magistrate Boseiwaqa remanded the accused in custody because the amount of illicit drugs was high.

The matter was adjourned for mention to December 3.
