Eliki Waqalevu won the sportsman of the year award during the

Nabua Primary School annual prizegiving in Suva yesterday.

And the Yaqaga, Lekutu, Bua native has plans to make a mark in

the world of rugby next month in Tonga and next year at Marist

Brothers High School.

Waqalevu captained the Nasinu Unde-14 side during the annual Milo

Kaji Rugby competition at the ANZ Stadium, Suva in August.

Although his team bowed out in the Cup semifinals, he was singled out

for his exemplary performance and was named in the Fiji U14 squad preparing to tour Tonga next  month.

His father Aporosa Navara said his son has plans for the future.

“We are all happy for him,” Navara said.

“He has plans cut out and we are all supporting him in achieving his rugby dreams. He is training in earnest aiming to make the tour party to Tonga.

“Next year he will join Marist Brothers High School and aims to make the U15 team and also represent the school in the annual Coca-Cola Games.

“He is committed, working hard and we are all together in this.”

Waqalevu dedicated his success so far to his late uncle Eremasi Seiro who was part of his upbringing.
