Thirty-four-year-old pharmacist and politician Alvick Maharaj is excited to begin his new role as the Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity, Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports.

“First things first, I have to meet my minister, my permanent secretary and my staff and from there we will come up with a plan for the next four years and we will work accordingly,” Mr Maharaj said.

He said it was an honour to be given the responsibility to look after Fijian youths after being a young member of Parliament for the past four years.

His line Minister is former Minister for Local Government, Urban Development and Housing Parveen Bala.

“More than 70 per cent of our population is below the age of 40, so it will be a challenge for me to actually build with my own people of my own age.”

He said he looked forward to serving another four-year term in Parliament.

Mr Maharaj is a businessman from Bulileka in Labasa and is the Director of Good Health Care Pharmacy and Madison Chemist in Suva, chief executive officer of Chemistwala and Director of GHC Supplies Limited (Wholesale Business).

He started his business when he was 25 years old and has seen it grow through the years through his hard work and perseverance.
