Peceli Tuivakali knew it was his calling when he realised in primary school that he wanted to be a school teacher.

But he never dreamt of losing his father and grandfather so early while pursuing his childhood dream.

Yet this experience made him stronger and more determined to work harder in school.

Originally from Navitilevu, Nalawa in Ra, the 22-year-old was emotional and elated.

He was one of the 26 graduates from Corpus Christi Teachers College at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva yesterday.

“I am very happy knowing this educational trip has come to an end,” said Mr Tuivakali.

“Ever since primary school, it was my dream to become a teacher and I term this as a calling. Today I have fulfilled my dream,” he said.

He explained that his biggest challenge in the past three years was when he lost his grandfather, later losing his father this year.

“This motivated me somehow that I should achieve something to make them proud,” Mr Tuivakali said.

He is proud that he has done his family proud and that he would be able to provide for them better.

“This will be a new life for my family and I have to fulfil their dreams too.”

He is looking forward to a new posting and teaching in the coming year.
