Bua Farmers Play 7s Rugby

The Natakala Babaas rugby team had to hold fundraising drives to raise funds which allowed them to play at the Ucunipotu Sevens tournament currently underway at Subrail Park, Labasa.
The team consist of farmers in Bua who had never participated in any local sevens tournament.
Natakala Babaas official Waisea Valeana said the players have indicated that it has been an eye- opening experience.
“They have never participated in a local rugby tournament; this is their first and will not be their last,” the 51-year-old said.
“We had to hold fundraising activities like gunusede, soli and had to work on farms, so we could pay for our registration fee, transportation and accommodation.
“This is something new for the boys and our sweat has been worth the struggle.”
Valeana said they would remain underdogs, and would not underestimate their opponents in the two-day tournament.
“We have an aim and that is to return to Bua with the trophy and we will make sure that we will achieve our goal,” he added.
