Nine players playing in the Top 14 competition in France will boost the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians at Stade de France, Paris tomorrow.

Head coach John McKee has named eight players in the starting line-up with Eroni Sau of Perpignan on the bench,

The eight players named in the team to play France are Leone Nakarawa (Racing 92), Ben Volavola (Racing 92), Semi Radradra (Bordeaux Begles), Josua Tuisova (Toulon), Jale Vatubua (Pau), Peceli Yato (Clermont), Dominiko Waqaniburotu (Brive) and Metuisela Talebula (Bayonne).

Speaking to SUNsports via Zoom Interview yesterday, McKee was pleased with the effort put in by the players during training and is confident the side will deliver to expectation.

“Excitement is the best word to describe the atmosphere in camp this week which is very important then the technical aspect of the game,” McKee said

“And they are proud to represent the people back home and their families and that’s a big driving force for the team. They are conscious in really wanting to put up a top performance.

“We have an experienced team and the boys know their opposition well as they are all involved in the Top 14 competition.

“Also our United Kingdom-based players Saulo (London Irish), Vereniki Goveva (Newcastle Falcons), Tevita Cavubati (Newcastle Falcons), Vili Mata (Edinburgh), and Semi Kunatani (Harlequins) know the France players as they always play together in the European Cup matches.”

McKee said having experienced players in the team would be an added boost.

“The French will be wary of big guns like Tuisova, Radradra, Vatabua and Nakarawa. There are a lot of top class players in our side,” McKee added

“I believe the French side will utilise their physicality against us but we have done a lot of work along that area and it’s been very effective.

“We need to be more careful with our defence especially giving away opportunities for penalties. Our scrum needs to be on par as we will be trying to put pressure on the ball.

“Despite the chilly conditions the players here are pretty used to it. But we are expecting the night to be pretty chilly and be mindful of the kick off time on Sunday.

“We need to expect the unexpected from the French,” he added.
