Total (Fiji) Limited hope to have all their service stations converted to solar by next year.

The company’s managing director in Fiji Kazi Rahman, opened the Total Saweni Service Station in Lautoka on Thursday.

He said while the work in carrying this conversion had already started, they were looking at next year to complete it.

Total launched a programme in 2016 to equip more than 5,000 of its service stations worldwide with solar panels within five years with a total investment of $300 million.

The project was fully aligned with Total’s ambition of becoming the responsible energy major and its commitment to developing solar power.

He said this would reduce Total’s carbon emissions by 100,000 tons per year and reduce their electricity bill by $40 million annually.

Mr Rahman said a substantial investment was made towards the project but no figure could be given.

Mr Rahman said Total’s policy was to be as close to the consumer as possible and thus the location was selected.

He said the service station was a one-stop shop where besides filling fuel for vehicles, there is a service centre, a tyre shop, a café, wine outlet and later a supermarket.

About Saweni Service Station

He said what made Total service stations stand out was offered multi-services and Total Saweni epitomised that.

“This is one of the busiest roads (Queens Highway) in Fiji, between Lautoka and Nadi.”

“So it is obvious that we have a service station here to provide the service.”

The service station has provided employment for 18 people and its opening has provided a boost to the local economy of Saweni.

Meanwhile Mr Rahiman said the promotion of a major prize that is a Jeep vehicle was ongoing and would be drawn before Christmas.
