It has been one tragedy after another for Mohammed Tauffiq Yunus’ family.

Just over a month ago, the 30-year-old mechanic’s wife left him for another man.

He then brought his two sons, aged three and five years, from Nadi to Suva to begin a new life.

But tragedy struck again this week when he was mowed down along Foster Road, Walu Bay, Suva, at about 1pm on Thursday.

Within six hours, after surgery at Suva’s Colonial War Memorial Hospital, he died.

His family is still trying to come to terms with the fact that he is no more.

His sister, Ferdoz Nisha, described her late brother as someone who was loved by everyone.

“My brother was a kind and humble guy. We really miss him, especially when he left behind two young children. He was the youngest out of the three of us siblings,” Ms Nisha said.

“Every morning before he leaves for work, he would always kiss our mum and his two children and reminded my mum to look after the children.

“We didn’t know that when he said goodbye to us on Thursday morning it would be the last time we would see him alive.

Ms Nisha claimed: “My brother’s wife left him and eloped with another guy so we will look after his children and will continue to love them.”

Ms Nisha said her brother would be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

“My brother was on his way to the service station when the accident happened.

“He was standing on the footpath when the bus bumped him,” she said.

“He was rushed to the hospital and he died after surgery on Thursday evening.

“His children were asking about their father and we told them that he was no more.

“When the coffin was brought home, they kept asking us if their dad was inside the coffin. They kept crying beside the coffin.”

The road death toll currently stands at 62 compared with 59 for the same period last year.
