Woman hospitalised with burns, Police investigate

Reshmi Lata, 42, was admitted to the Labasa Hospital with 74 per cent of burns yesterday.

Her husband Anil Chand, of Tuatua, Labasa, said he was at work when he received a call informing him about his wife.

Mr Chand said a neighbour contacted the Police about the incident.

“My two daughters and aunty were at home while my eldest daughter and I were at work,” he said.

“She is currently in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with about 74 per cent burns and I don’t know whether she will survive or not,” he said.

“I am praying she will come out from this situation soon so that we can be a family.”

Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Northern Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Eparama Waqa confirmed that they received a call from Mr Chand’s neighbour during midday yesterday.

“The caller said a woman was burning inside a house in Tuatua and immediately a team was dispatched,” SSP Waqa said.

“She is currently admitted at Labasa Hospital with severe burns.

“We have begun with our investigation.”
