First Movember morning tea begins

In a bid to raise funds to assist men with prostate cancer, the Lautoka Men’s Health Awareness Committee hosted its first ever Movember morning tea yesterday.
The committee was also assisted by the ANZ Staff Foundation and the Fiji Cancer Society.
Committee chairperson, Ritesh Naicker said the idea of having a fundraiser to support men in terms of prostate cancer was to create a platform to allow men and also women to know the effects of prostate cancer.
“Our main objective is to set up a clinic in Fiji and at the moment there is a small oncology unit for men at the Lautoka Hospital so we will meet up with the Lautoka Hospital team and the Ministry of Health if we can renovate it or extend it, but for that we need funds,” he said.
“That is why we are creating this awareness to get the funds in and go to them and see what they want.”
Mr Naicker said with the committee’s first event, they were aiming to raise at least $1000 which would go towards the Fiji Cancer Society.
He said they were now planning something bigger for World Cancer Day next February and would also begin with various morning tea events to raise funds.
The ANZ Bank District Manager West, Maimun Singh acknowledged the men of the committee and also the staff of ANZ Bank in Lautoka for having the commitment to drive the initiative forward.
