Government Member of Parliament Selai Adimaitoga used her first parliamentary speech to pay homage to women and to encourage Fijian women to strive to do their best.

Ms Adimaitoga is one of few female sugarcane farmers.

While praising and acknowledging the immeasurable participation of women in society, Ms Adimaitoga said women are key players in the betterment of Fiji

“From the women who rise early to care for their families, to those who are the last ones to sleep, your passion to have a better family from the home to the community is the foundation upon which our nation rests and grows,” Ms Adimaitoga said.

“Women run our homes and raise our children, they are our first teachers at home, they are smart budgeters, great chefs and they are the best judges for everything to be 100% in a family.”

She pledged to serve Fiji and the Fijian people to the best of her ability under the leadership of the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his determination to steer Fiji towards genuine democracy, prosperity, stability and certainty.

“I am very happy to speak on women sugarcane farmers, they are very effective examples for their own communities. Sugarcane farmers like I, continue empowering women because FijiFirst values women’s rights to access the entitlements and privileges guaranteed under our Constitution, unencumbered by discrimination, culture, or oppressive religious interpretation,” Ms Adimaitoga said.

“FijiFirst is creating a gender-fair society that protects and promotes the rights of women. FijiFirst supports the freedom of all women to participate in any profession they choose.”

She said women should realise that they are equally as capable as men.

“Our FijiFirst family is the best, we look beyond gender, we have included many women on merit in the party that is why I am here today, due to FijiFirst’s inclusiveness,” she said.

She thanked the Attorney General Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum whom she said has been her inspiration and has encouraged her to be strong and to have a passion for politics to serve all Fijians.

Ms Adimaitoga acknowledged the thousands of Fijians who voted for FijiFirst and asked those who did not to join them in following the truth instead of lies.

In closing the FijiFirst MP encouraged all MP’s to work together towards advancing national interests and adhere to the highest standards of collective and personal conduct.
