Fashion is something that must be lived.

These were the sentiments shared by a 56-year-old fashion designer of Savusavu who was part of the two-day Women’s Expo in Savusavu.

Rosalia Sui, of Nukubalavu, Cakaudrove said that there was a need to involve more people in the fashion industry.

“It’s a vibrant industry and we need more innovative ideas to move the industry forward,” said Ms Sui.

She said that fashion designing in foreign countries had a high level of recognition and Pacific Islanders could also gain popularity.

Ms Sui who has five children said that her taste in fashion started when she was a teenager.

However, with time, she was determined to design her own clothing designs and also developed an interest in designing jewelries.

Ms Sui designs island dresses, vone necklace, kuta hat and earrings made out of eco-friendly materials such as shells and voivoi, a traditional plant used for weaving mats. Her plan for now is to continue with the craft and hope that more people are attracted to the industry.
