Lawyers, Filimoni Vosarogo and Richard Naidu are leading the filing of the Opposition parties’ petition to the Court of Disputed Returns.

Three Opposition parties – the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA), the National Federation Party and the Fiji Labour Party – had stated that they would not accept the result of the 2018 General Election and would take legal action.

This was confirmed by Opposition whip Lynda Tabuya to the Fiji Sun.

Opposition Leader Sitiveni Rabuka had earlier confirmed the four political parties were working together on this.

While delivering his speech in Parliament yesterday, Mr Rabuka said: “Even though SODELPA and our fellow opposition party, the National Federation Party are sitting here, we do so without prejudice to our right to file a petition in the Court of Disputed Returns, regarding the 2018 General Election processes and the results within the time allowed by law.”

He also assured the public that SODELPA would follow the rule of law in the process to be undertaken by their legal team in the courts.

The Opposition has 21 days from when elections results were announced to file documents in the Court of Disputed Returns disputing the outcome of the 2018 General Election.
