Why our President?

Tukai Lagonilakeba, Nadi

Can the Leader of the Opposition Sitiveni Rabuka please discourage his team from consistently denigrating His Excellency the President’s Speech.

Get on with the job of moving our country in the right direction.

Parliament lady

Joe Smith, Pacific Harbour

The Parliament secretary has a hard cover book recording details of all Parliamentarians contacts details.

For the interest of many outside ladies could she provide the address of this classy hair saloon Lynda Tabuya is a customer of?

Sevens indiscipline

Ronnie Chang, Nadi

Some things just need to be addressed. In the Dubai 7s Cup 1/4 final match against USA, our shameful indiscipline cost us dearly.

How does any coach teach mental discipline? Our discipline while on defence also let us down badly.

For the fifth place playoff, shameful indiscipline again reared its ugly head resulting in a downright disgusting red card. These grossly irresponsible actions must be corrected immediately.

Sa rua na madua lutusobu dina (That’s two shameless acts that brought us down).

Au sa druka saraga (I give up!).

Water source

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

We welcome the Water Authority of Fiji’s efforts to eliminate discoloured water from the Western division (FS  1/12).

I am more concerned that water sources remain untreated with chlorine and other medicines that can cause typhoid diseases.

The Constitution says in section 36 ‘…to have adequate food of acceptable quality and to have clean and safe water in adequate quantities’.

147 Votes

Simon Hazelman, Savusavu

FijiFirst won 50.02 per cent of total votes cast, SODELPA won 39.85 per cent of total votes cast, NFP won 7.38 per cent of total votes cast, Unity Fiji won 1.52 per cent of votes cast, HOPE won 0.62 per cent of votes cast, and FLP won 0.62 per cent of votes cast.

FijiFirst won by 46,169 votes over SODELPA! FijiFirst won by 193,726 votes over NFP, FijiFirst won by 220,345 votes over Unity Fiji, FijiFirst won by 224,430 votes over HOPE, and FijiFirst won by 224,441 votes over FLP!

So, the closest competitor was 46,169 votes less than FijiFirst.

None of the parties can claim that FijiFirst won by just 147 unless they were all in it together to try and topple FijiFirst.

To compare five parties against one is a rather one-sided affair!

Nice try!

Fijiana Team needs a better coaching team

Tomasi Boginiso, Nasinu

Our women’s team in Dubai is getting worse. A new overseas coach is urgently needed to move them to a better position than they are in right now.

Ratu Alivereti Doviverata may be doing a good job but is not to the standard that is required at the moment.

Try getting in a former Aussie or New Zealand player to be the coach or a former Fijian rep in the Australian team two years ago. More tournaments for women in Fiji is urgently needed and selection to meet the criteria required.

Please, let’s fix these problems now before we end up in a much lower ranking.

Blast from the past

Jan Nissar, Carlton, NSW, Australia

A lot has been said lately by people in respect to bringing up what transpired 31 years ago in Fiji – the ‘events of 1987’ as they are known.

They continue to say ‘forgive and forget’, ‘let’s move on’ , ‘look to the future’  and things of the like. Many quote from the Holy Book.

If we are to move on, why is the person who perpetrated these atrocities still lingering today like a bad odor in the hallowed chamber?

If we are to look to the future, why are people still looking to this man who is a blast from the past?

Are people blind or deaf or plain dumb? Perhaps all of the above? And what amazes me is that there are so many of you out there.

May I add, never trust anyone who speaks to God!
