Serua Province will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) today to reinforce and support rehabilitation efforts by the service.

This was announced during the Serua Provincial Council meeting at Navua yesterday.

Roko Tui Serua, Seru Ratukalou said they were excited to work with FCS.

“The signing will be held during Serua Day. Signing this MOU means we will take ownership of our work concerning inmates from

Serua,” Mr Ratukalou said. “According to the statistic last year we have about eight or nine inmates who are from Serua currently serving their time in prison.” Mr Ratukalou said they would ensure that the MOU signing was a success.

“A lot of times rehabilitation for inmates falls short because conditions at home or in the village do not suit their return to normality,” he said.

“We will ensure that when they are released from prison they can be integrated back into the community.”
