A student from the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) Department of Hospitality and Tourism has put family first before self.

Sylviya Reddy, 32, missed out on her graduation yesterday because she wanted to see her father in hospital before he went in for an operation.

Ms Reddy was expected to received her Certificate in Attainment in Beauty and Therapy at the Fiji National University (FNU), Nadi Campus.

Ms Reddy, who arrived at the graduation venue minutes after the ceremony concluded, was told she would be given her certificate at the end of the day. This did not dishearten her, but she had wished to see her father and dedicated her success to him.

She said her father had congratulated her before he went in for his operation.

“No one is here to attend my graduation. I am here alone, but I wish he could be here,” she said.

Despite the recent event, she is pleased about receiving her certificate.
