Despite her disability, 21-year-old Peniana Lutunavuai graduated with a Diploma of Information Technology Networking from the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) yesterday.

She was among 190 who graduated at the Fiji National University graduation at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay Suva.

Ms Lutunavuai, who hails from Wainiika Village in Cakaudrove, was born with the limited movement to her limbs.

She said she struggled during her studies, but she was grateful to her family members for helping her achieve her goals.

“I was not able to write from Year One because of my disability so I photocopy notes so that I can study,” she said.

“I had to be up every night to study and it used to affect my health, but I managed somehow.”

After losing her mother years ago, Ms Lutunavuai’s father and two siblings who take care of her helped her in her studies.

“My disability did not discourage me from continuing my studies,” she said.

She plans to continue her studies in the near future.
