Mangoes mean more than just fruits for Asaeli Kaiudu, 32, of Kabara Lau, who sells on Suva’s streets.

The produce means education and a bright future for his three children.

The meager income he earns is like gold and every cent from it goes into preparing his family for Christmas and most importantly for his kid’s education next year.

“Every cent counts because it is for my families’ survival during this festive season and for my kid’s education next year,” he said.

“The education for my kids is very important and this money will help a lot.”

The hardworking father with his family have travelled to Suva to sell their mangoes because the West, usually regarded as the mango region in the country is flooded with people who sell the fruit and with a target of $700 a day he is lucky to reach that figure.

“I get an average of $150 a day during the days I am here and I get a lot of customers here in Suva than in the West,” he said.

“There’s a lot of people from the West who are as well so competition is high and we are thankful and lucky with whatever we have.

“I have put money aside and made plans for our Christmas celebrations as we are going to spend it with our families back in the village,” he said.

“l want to encourage everyone to work hard during this festive season in preparing for their Christmas celebrations.”
