I would not have graduated today, if it weren’t for my husband supporting all the way, says Fiji National University graduate Sharon Lata.

On Friday during the FNU graduation ceremony at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, Ms Lata walked up on stage to receive her Master of Commerce in Accounting.

“I have a family. I had to work every day and after work I had to attend my lectures and complete my assignments,” the 37-year-old working wife said.

“After my studies, I had to go do housework and balancing all the happenings in my life was a major challenge for me.

“But, in all this I would like to thank my husband who supported me throughout and helped me carry some of that burden.”

She currently works for the Ministry of Education. Amid the excitement of graduating, Ms Lata said self-determination could be a useful tool to drive someone to success.

“I went through financial difficulties, but I managed it by working and paying my tuition fees,” said Ms Lata.

“It is important to have a plan in life and work towards it steadily to become successful and prosper in life.”

The 37-year-old graduate plans to further her studies.
