Children of Assemblies of God (AOG) Labasa congregation walked out of church happy when they received early Christmas gifts and special awards yesterday.

During the Christmas celebration church pastor Nathaniel Pillay reminded the children, Sunday school teachers, board members and congregation that Christmas was celebrated to remember the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Jesus should be remembered every day, every hour and every minute,” Pastor Pillay said.

“Not only on December 25 or on Sundays.”

It has been more than 32 years for the church to commemorate Christmas.

AOG Sunday School Superintendent Sanjeeta Pillay said they had 30 children in church and the newcomers were all presented with gifts.

Joshua Goundar, a Sunday school student who won the first prize for the Best Christmas card, said he was happy to get a special award.

“With the help of my mother I was able to enter into this competition for the first time and I feel happy to win an award for the first time during such Christmas celebration,” the 11-year-old of Namara, Labasa, said.

“The most important lesson that I learnt during this Christmas celebration is that it is not about food, fancy clothes or gifts; it is about Jesus, who came to this world to save us from our sins and give us salvation.”
