Fiji beat the US to win the Cape Town 7s 29 - 15.

It was a long time coming. But finally, the tables have turned for the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team in Cape Town.

Fiji beat the US Eagles 29 – 15.  Our last win in South Africa was 13 years ago.

Coach Gareth Baber credited the boys and staff for their hard work.

“It has been a long time coming,” he said.

It’s been a long time coming, for the Fijians to win in Cape Town. We were disappointed last week that we didn’t manage to perform to the level that we’ve done this week.

“It makes me most proud that these players have done everything for their families back home and the country of Fiji. It’s great. Fijian fans are everywhere in the world, wherever we travel, and we say a big thank you to all those who make a big effort to come and support us.

“We’ve had some battles, most notably South Africa in the semi-finals, but all credit to the players and staff – they’ve manned up.

Man of the Final Vilimoni Botitu was thankful. “I want to thank the management for being here with me and the boys who gave everything for me to achieve what I achieved today.” Fiji had beaten hosts South Africa in the semi-final.

Here is how we stand as we head to Hamilton, New Zealand next year.

Standing

In the Hamilton 7s, Fiji is the top seed in Pool A and will face Australia, Argentina and Wales.
